Round Lab launched in 2018 with a deceptively simple proposition: most skincare is 70-80% water — what if the water itself were active? The brand sources from three Korean origins: Dokdo Island (deep-sea mineral water, rich in magnesium and silica), white birch trees (sap, antioxidant), and mugwort (Artemisia, anti-inflammatory). Each line is built around one of these source waters.

The breakout product was the 1025 Dokdo Toner — named after the latitude (37°14') and longitude (131°52') of the Dokdo islets — a £16 hydrating toner using 70% Dokdo mineral water. Reddit's r/SkincareAddictionUK called it the "Klairs Supple Preparation killer" by late 2019. The Birch Juice Moisturizing Sunscreen followed in 2020 and became one of the highest-rated SPF50+ products on r/AsianBeauty for oily skin.

Round Lab is owned by Round Inc., a Korean cosmetics startup that took external investment in 2022 to fund Western expansion. UK availability through LookFantastic launched in 2023. The brand publishes per-batch water-source assays on the Korean site (English translation pending) and uses recyclable PCR plastic across the catalogue.

What's genuinely differentiated: the mineral-water approach lets Round Lab formulate at lower active concentrations (you don't need 5% niacinamide if the base water already brings magnesium and silica). That makes the entire line broadly tolerated by sensitive skin — which is why r/SkincareAddiction frequently recommends Round Lab as the "training wheels" K-beauty brand for people transitioning from CeraVe or La Roche-Posay.
