For dry, barrier-compromised, or mature skin where moisturisers haven't been doing enough, the Dr.Jart+ Ceramidin Cream delivers the K-beauty 5-Cera Complex in a 3:1:1 ratio with cholesterol and fatty acids — the closest topical match to your skin's native barrier composition, and the reason this product is still the category reference 12 years after launch.
The ingredient story
Hero ingredient
5-Cera Complex (Ceramides NP, NG, NS, AS, AP) + Cholesterol + Fatty Acids
Concentration
Multi-ceramide complex with at least five ceramide subtypes alongside cholesterol and palmitic/stearic acids in approximate 3:1:1 ratio — the formulation pattern with the strongest barrier-repair clinical evidence.
Deep-dive
Read the full guide →How it works
Your skin's outermost barrier (stratum corneum) is built from a "brick-and-mortar" lipid matrix: ~50% ceramides, 25% cholesterol, 15% fatty acids. When that mix is depleted (by age, eczema, over-cleansing, retinoid use), water leaks out and irritants leak in. Topical lipids matching the natural ratio replenish what is missing — Zettersten et al. (1997, JAAD) demonstrated this is the formulation pattern that accelerates barrier repair faster than any other.
What the evidence shows
Multi-ceramide formulations at the 3:1:1 ratio are first-line recommendations from the American Academy of Dermatology and British Association of Dermatologists for managing dry skin and atopic dermatitis. The 2023 Dr.Jart+ reformulation specifically uses the 5-Cera Complex (NP, NG, NS, AS, AP) at this ratio. See /ingredients/ceramides for the full lipid science.
No real contraindications. Some users with very oily skin find the cream too rich in summer — Dr.Jart+ makes a lighter "Ceramidin Liquid" for that case.
The brand
Philosophy
“Bring clinical-grade dermatological formulations to consumer skincare — the "Dr." in the brand name is intentional.”
Dr.Jart+ was founded in 2005 by a Korean dermatologist as one of the early "dermatology-led" K-beauty brands. The Ceramidin Cream launched in 2014 and quickly became the K-beauty barrier product Western dermatology took seriously — recommended in clinical settings for atopic dermatitis, post-procedure recovery, and mature dry skin. The 2023 reformulation upgraded to the 5-Cera Complex with intentional 3:1:1 ratio, putting Dr.Jart+ ahead of most Western brands on the formulation science. Now owned by Estée Lauder Companies, Dr.Jart+ sits in the K-beauty premium tier, but the Ceramidin Cream remains the line's anchor at the £35 mark — premium for K-beauty, value for what it delivers vs Western competitors at £60+.
Where this fits in your routine
Routine step
Moisturiser — the closing skincare step (before facial oil or SPF)
Morning: cleanse → toner → essence → active serum → Ceramidin Cream → SPF Evening: double cleanse → toner → essence → retinol or other actives → Ceramidin Cream → facial oil (optional, for very dry skin)
Best partner pairings: Apply retinol first to clean dry skin, wait 5 minutes, then Ceramidin Cream — this is one of the best buffering combinations in skincare. Same logic with acids: AHA/BHA first, wait, then Ceramidin to rebuild.
Pregnancy-safe.
Pairs especially well with
COSRX Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence — snail provides surface glycoprotein hydration, ceramides provide structural lipids — they work at different layers
Anua Niacinamide 10% + TXA 4% Serum — niacinamide upregulates your skin's own ceramide synthesis; topical ceramides amplify the effect
Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun SPF50+ — sunscreen as the final morning step on top of Ceramidin — no pilling, no white cast

What real users say
“After two pregnancies my skin became reactive and dry for the first time ever. Ceramidin Cream is the only moisturiser that has consistently kept my barrier intact. I have repurchased seven times.”
— Reddit r/SkincareAddiction, 2024
“My dermatologist literally prescribes this for my eczema patients. It works as well as a £60 European cream at £35.”
— Dermatologist forum review
“I use this as my retinol buffer. Tretinoin on bare skin, wait 5 minutes, then Ceramidin — I have been on prescription strength for 18 months with zero "retinol uglies".”
— r/Tretinoin, 2024
Texture / feel
Rich whipped-cream texture that absorbs into a satin-velvet finish (not heavy or occlusive). Faint clean scent — no added fragrance. Layers under makeup without pilling. Sits comfortably even on combination skin if used in moderation.

Counterfeit warning
Dr.Jart+ uses tamper-evident packaging — the box should have a holographic seal and the jar a foil cover under the lid. Avoid Amazon marketplace third-party sellers; counterfeit Ceramidin is among the most-reported fake K-beauty products in 2024–25.

About this product
Rich ceramide cream that repairs and strengthens the skin barrier for persistently dry or compromised skin.
Why Ceramides works
Ceramides replenish the lipid matrix in the stratum corneum, sealing moisture in and irritants out.
Best for these skin types
Concerns addressed
Layer hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and squalane to replenish both water and lipid content in the skin.
Ceramides, centella asiatica, and panthenol are the gold standard for rebuilding a compromised barrier.
